For two and a half years the Markets of Melbourne has existed as a collaboration between three of Melbourne’s longest running cultural icons – Prahran Market, Queen Victoria Market and South Melbourne Market. littleBig is proud to say it has been representing the group from the beginning. It is with much excitement that we announce the inclusion of Dandenong Market into the collective.

The main objective of Markets of Melbourne is to educate consumers about the benefits of market shopping.  This enables them to make informed decisions about the freshness and quality of the food they consume and the environmental, social and economic impact of their shopping choices. Our locally run markets compete with huge corporate supermarket chains and Markets of Melbourne want these great market institutions to survive long into the future and to continue as important sources of trade for over 1,000 small businesses.

“Welcoming Dandenong Market into the group is a great pleasure,” says Jennifer Hibbs, Markets of Melbourne representative and Queen Victoria Market CEO.”The Market shares our values in terms of great produce and value for money, expert traders, an unbeatable atmosphere and a very strong community focus. Melburnians living in the outer east are really lucky to have such a great market to call their own.”The group feels the addition of Dandenong Market strengthens it as it enables them to represent market culture across Melbourne more broadly.

All four of the markets are owned and run by their local councils, ensuring community is at the very heart of their mandate.

Julie Busch, Dandenong Market Chairman, says, “Joining the Markets of Melbourne was very important to us. Our markets provide business opportunities and employment to over 5,000 Victorians collectively. We provide the best value food shopping and an atmosphere other retailers will never be able to emulate. It’s our belief that market shopping should sustain as a great community service forever. Banding together with Melbourne’s other major markets puts us in good stead toward doing that.”

We look forward to working with the Dandenong Market team.
